This week we reviewed the previous vocabulary to practice recall and then played a fun memory game with the school supplies words we learned last week. The students seem to really enjoy the game and seem to have the words down.
This week we had the pleasure to host some of the Anderson High School German 4-6 students to teach German lessons to our third grade students. The topic was school supplies, and the vocabulary is posted on the vocabulary page. Also, there is a great word search posted
The Anderson students did a great job teaching the classes. It is always great to see them start off nervous but really get into it after their first lesson. I would like to thank the Anderson students for doing such a great job. They are fine ambassadors for language learning! This week's lesson is about comparing German and American cultures. We watched a delightful video about Ole, a ten year old German boy, and his family. Ole lives in Berlin and takes us along for a few days and shows us what his life is like. The students saw what a normal German family is like and were then asked to compare their own lives to that of Ole. The 3rd graders had some great insights on how Halloween is celebrated in Germany vs. USA, how families live, how people get around in urban German locations, etc. Please ask your child about this great video and chat with them about things they found interesting!
Bis bald, Herr Rohde The German lessons have officially begun! This week we will be discussing Germany's location, how its size compares to the USA and Texas, where German is spoken, etc. We also started on some new words including greetings, how to say good bye, how to say My name is... Asking someone's name, etc. It has started off well! You can get the vocabulary here or go to the vocabulary page above and then download the Greetings vocab sheet. Remember to ask: How big is Germany? (About the size of Montana) On what continent is Germany located? (Europe) What are three countries with German as their official or one of their official languages? (Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Lichtenstein)
Enjoy the lessons! |
